I still have to pinch myself

Image
So I now officially feel like I live in Jamaica.  Even though I still pinch myself each time I say that, as I am still in disbelief. My stuff has arrived I am unpacked and surrounded by my things. I still wake up everyday and expect to walk outside and feel it getting cooler, which is how my brain has been programmed to think for the last 46 years.  My birthday has gone by, my daughters birthday has gone by, and now Halloween... Halloween isn't a thing here really from what I understand, no trick or treaters, just a few clubs host Halloween haunts but I have not seen anyone in costumes, which is different, but I see stores selling it, and small kids at school on Tuesday will have dress up and a parade.  We are big Halloween people  we love to dress up and go to a dance on Halloween, so we have decided we will host our first party and it will be a masquerade which will be a lot of fun but due to travel will have to be hosted in November. So life will be diffe...

Living at a new pace

Image
PACE consistent and continuous speed in walking, running, or moving: "most traffic moved at the pace of the riverboat" ·  "walking at a comfortably fast pace" Learning to live the Island pace of life can be a challenge.  Raised to always be on time, never make anyone wait for you, and get things done as quickly as possible, are just a few of the lessons I am struggling with. Being on time here can be problematic, if you do not know your way around, I am lucky enough to have Maurice to shuttle me around and ensure we are where we need to be and traffic never holds him up. Maurice seems to have a secret eye on the traffic all the time as he seems to sail through and knows exactly where to avoid. Getting used to where I can go, what time of day is it, and can I make it in time are now questions I must ask myself.  Living in a small town has spoiled me and I forget that Big City life means, big city traffic and distances I am not used to travelling. ...

Home Sweet Home

home həʊm/ noun noun: home ; plural noun: homes 1 . the place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household. We are in our home, we are adjusting to a new life here, but now we are "home" and it amazing how much easier it is to settle down once you are in a house.  What can I tell you about our home, first it is excellent for visitors and we expect many, we are close to many things here in New Kingston, grocery store and mall are a 2-3 minute drive, we have a remarkable view of New Kingston and the Hills.  It is close to work and school, which is very important here as traffic can be crazy, a 5 minute drive can easily turn into 45 minutes to and hour if your timing is off. It has been a very busy week for us, we have our Son coming "home" for Thanksgiving, and we also have also added new addition to the family, "Bear" an adorable Pomeranian Mix puppy who was delivered to our home on Thur...

Meeting One of Jamaica's Fastest Men

Image
I had the privilege last week to meet Asafa Powell, a Jamaican sprinter who specialises in the 100 metres. He held the 100 metres world record between June 2005 and May 2008, with times of 9.77 and 9.74 seconds. Powell has consistently broken the 10-second barrier in competition, with his personal best of 9.72 seconds and ranks fourth on the all-time list of male 100 metre athletes. He has broken the 10 second barrier in 100 metres 97 times in his career, which is more than any other sprinter. What I can tell you about Asafa, he was calm, cool and collected.  He was friendly, kind, humble, but proud of his accomplishments and also very fit. JPS hosted Asafa on the IN DI LOOP for employees to hear and be inspired by the importance of health and fitness in your everyday life. Meeting someone with such accomplishments always intrigues me, I want to know what motivates a person to continue to push themselves to achieve such greatness even after you have already achiev...
