Meeting One of Jamaica's Fastest Men

I had the privilege last week to meet Asafa Powell, a Jamaican sprinter who specialises in the 100 metres. He held the 100 metres world record between June 2005 and May 2008, with times of 9.77 and 9.74 seconds. Powell has consistently broken the 10-second barrier in competition, with his personal best of 9.72 seconds and ranks fourth on the all-time list of male 100 metre athletes. He has broken the 10 second barrier in 100 metres 97 times in his career, which is more than any other sprinter.

What I can tell you about Asafa, he was calm, cool and collected.  He was friendly, kind, humble, but proud of his accomplishments and also very fit.

JPS hosted Asafa on the IN DI LOOP for employees to hear and be inspired by the importance of health and fitness in your everyday life.

Meeting someone with such accomplishments always intrigues me, I want to know what motivates a person to continue to push themselves to achieve such greatness even after you have already achieved something  as a Sub 10 record to continue to do it over and over again always striving to see how much better you can get.

I understood Asafa to be driven by family, as a young boy he lost two brothers and him competing in Track brought joy back to the faces of his parents and that made him strive to do bigger and better things.

Asafa wants everyone to strive for the ultimate health and wellness program to keep your body strong and always working with you, he came with a new device he has created, a fitness band targeted at Jamaicans seeking to better maintain their health. Dubbed Active by Asafa Fitness.

Joy is what we all look for in life, I too find Joy in my family, watching the successes and accomplishments of my family is the ultimate Joy for me.

Thank you Asafa for coming out today and sharing your story, your tips on life and maintaining a healthy and fit body so that we can all continue to get the most Joy out of life as possible.
