Learning to live the Island pace of life can be a challenge. Raised to always be on time, never make anyone wait for you, and get things done as quickly as possible, are just a few of the lessons I am struggling with.
Being on time here can be problematic, if you do not know your way around, I am lucky enough to have Maurice to shuttle me around and ensure we are where we need to be and traffic never holds him up. Maurice seems to have a secret eye on the traffic all the time as he seems to sail through and knows exactly where to avoid.
Getting used to where I can go, what time of day is it, and can I make it in time are now questions I must ask myself. Living in a small town has spoiled me and I forget that Big City life means, big city traffic and distances I am not used to travelling.
Lucky for me I live in an area where everything I could possibly need is just around the corner, however that 2-3 minute drive to the corner store could take 15 minutes if you get caught in traffic, or a rain storm. Anywhere in New Kingston is just a matter of minutes away, however if it rains and it is high traffic time it can take hours.
What I love about all the hustle and bustle is there is always life! There is always something going on, there are always people in the street, ready to make a dollar washing your windows, sell you a steering wheel cover or Bananas!!! My favorite part is the bananas.
You see I grew up in what was called a small town at the time, which has now become a big city, I moved to the big city, and then I moved to a small town again, then a smaller one, then an even smaller one... now I am back in the big city again. I truly learn to appreciate each for its own special qualities and choose to ignore the negatives and celebrate what makes each place I live an adventure.
Thank you for following along on this journey with me. Remember to take each day a step at a time, find the good in everything, and most of all don't sweat the small stuff.
