Busy as I want to be.

Wow~ Jamaica Nice the story continues.

So time flies doesn't it, one very true expression.  We get busy, life is busy, I have been busy.

So a question I was asked is: "Are you keeping busy in Jamaica?"
My response was: "As busy as I want to be" with a smile.

It has been quite an adjustment, going from working everyday but Sunday, 10 - 6 sometimes 7, getting things accomplished, spending time with family and friends, a busy business life and social life to coming to an island which moves at a much slower pace, no job, and starting all over with a new social life.

Anyone who knows my husband and I, know we don't take long to make friends, we have friends all over Canada and the world, including Australia, Brazil, Portugal - social media has been wonderful for keeping in touch.  It allows me to never feel lonely.  I can reach out to so many people, not to mention those who reach out to me, all our visitors.  We joke around and say - hey we lived in the beautiful Northwest Territories of Canada and we had a few visitors who were brave enough to come and see what we loved about it.  Now I am not complaining in the least I love every visitor we get here in Jamaica, but we had more visitors in 5 months then we did in 5 years in the North.  I wonder why right, it helped that we moved here just in time to help our many friends and family escape the cold Canadian winters, but I am glad because it helped me to make the transition and see the different parts of Jamaica that we might not have seen without them.

So I have settled into a routine here, assisting the busy morning rush with husband going off to work and daughter heading off to school, quick conversations about life and our daily responsibilities.  Then it is quiet, some days I admit it is early and I sneak a few more quick zzzz's so the day doesn't seem so long, and others I grab a coffee and reach out to my social media for awhile.  Coffee is done, I am (hopefully) off to work out, sometimes I am challenged here and my new hobbies call for me stronger than the treadmill.  After workout then comes another coffee - two is my limit lol.
This time is reserved for sitting outside, enjoying nature, I live by a Catholic School so sometimes I am treated to prayers and hymns song by someone with a beautiful and soothing voice.  Other times it is just the sound of traffic in a busy city. Then once the coffee is done and the heat of the day picks up I usually head indoors and I can be found doing one of 4 things.

I still own the store in Hay River (which is for sale if anyone wants to find a buyer there is a finders fee) I try and keep up on everything that is going on, do the paperwork, check in and chat with the girls.

I also started a new hobby - I started sewing, I loved sewing when I was young, I took two/three years of sewing in highschool - all of which I forget - but I hung onto the basics.  This was quite the challenge for me as there are no patterns for sale in Jamaica so I did some online research and I became good at "cloning from my closet"  I have to admit I started sewing because I like to have something to show for my time spent.  So this has been very gratifying.

My other hobby is making jewelry, I started an Instagram page - SquireRoseStudio I am not sure what I am going to do with this, but hey it is fun for now.

I also do volunteering, I am part of the JPS Foundation, VOLTS (Volunteers on Location to Serve, and Junior Achievers which encourages entrepreneurship with youth in schools across Jamaica.
These positions are affording me great opportunities to give back to my new home, so far I have, brought Christmas Cheer to a school for the blind, read to grade ones, painted a primary school, and judged a big ideas contest... it has been very rewarding.

So that is my life right now, Jamaica is beautiful, my next big job will be planning my husbands big 5-0H party - it will be big fun, I am hoping I can convince some of our friends and family to leave Canada in the summertime - it will be nice to be surrounded by friends and family - new and old.  People are so reluctant to leave Canada in the summer - makes it tough.  Thank you in advance to any of you that change your mind and decide to join us.  I offer a stay one get one free offer lol!  The accommodations are the same price year round!!!  Email me for details.

Enjoy life.  Wherever you are.
